Mobile App Redesign
Complete interface overhaul for consumer electronics app
Raumfeld developed high-end wireless speaker systems that required sophisticated multi-room audio control. Their existing app was functional but struggled with usability—particularly when managing complex speaker configurations and playlists.
The redesign needed to simplify common tasks while preserving advanced features for power users. We had to balance richness with clarity in a touch-first environment.
Information Architecture: We restructured navigation around user tasks rather than system features. Primary actions (play, pause, volume, room selection) became persistently accessible, while advanced controls lived in contextual panels.
Visual Language: The interface embraced dark UI principles—appropriate for evening listening sessions and reducing eye strain. We developed a gestural system for quick zone management and playlist editing.
Interaction Patterns: Large touch targets, swipe gestures for common actions, and progressive disclosure for complexity. The now-playing screen became the central hub, with radial navigation to other functions.
The redesigned app reduced the average number of taps for common tasks by 40%. User testing showed significant improvements in discoverability and satisfaction, particularly for zone management and playlist creation.
The visual language and interaction patterns we established influenced Raumfeld's broader product design direction and informed their subsequent hardware interfaces.
